Agricultural Sustainability CouncilThe Agricultural Sustainability Council is an umbrella organization that works to bring together Iowa State University organizations involved in sustainable agriculture activities. This council is a means of sharing information about current projects and developing strategies for working together on common goals. Council MembersLeopold Center for Sustainable AgricultureThe Leopold Center is a research and education center with statewide programs to develop sustainable agricultural practices that are both profitable and conserve natural resources. The Center is located on the Iowa State University campus at 209 Curtiss Hall. Graduate Program in Sustainable AgricultureIowa State University offers the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture, which provides students the opportunity to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries in pursuit of the MS and PhD degrees in sustainable agriculture. Sustainable Agriculture Extension ProgramThe Sustainable Agriculture Extension Program, an educational program of Iowa State University, supports sustainable agriculture in Iowa by providing information, training, and programs on sustainability to farmers, agricultural professionals, and the public. Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL)CSRL, a part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, is a unique effort dedicated to providing leadership and support to help alleviate hunger and poverty in developing countries. Iowa Water CenterThe Iowa Water Center is a part of a nationwide network of university-based water centers authorized by the 1964 federal Water Resources Act, whose purpose is to encourage interdisciplinary water research and the education and outreach needed to insure research results are applied to real world problems. North Central Regional Center for Rural Development (NCRCRD)The NCRCRD, located at Iowa State University, works to strengthen rural communities, create vibrant and sustainable economies, and enhance regional well-being. Bioeconomy Institute (BEI)Iowa State University's new Bioeconomy Institute will initially focus on six program areas: corn to biofuels; biorenewable chemicals; thermochemical technologies such as gasification and fast pyrolysis; harvest, storage and transportation of biomass; feedstock production; and biorenewables education. Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD)The Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, located within the Department of Economics in ISU's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, conducts public policy and economic research focusing on agricultural, environmental, and food issues. |
